Job Summary:
Global Risk Solutions (GRS) North America Actuarial & Analytics is seeking an Actuary who will lead the Segment Support and Rate Indications team within the Excess and Umbrella pricing team. As the manager of segment support and indications team, you will work directly with underwriting leadership across North America to enhance pricing decisions and influence strategy. This position will be focused on providing high quality analyses and effectively communicating key outcomes to support profit, growth, and operational objectives. This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated individual. The candidate must have superior analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in an innovative and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will also have a proven ability to communicate with and influence senior business leaders.
Responsibilities:
- Work across functions to lead complex and creative actuarial pricing analyses for Lead & Excess making recommendations across North America to assist business decision making and strategy development, including the semi-annual profitability reviews and rate indications
- Thought partner to the profit center leadership teams; fosters partnerships across the North America organization to improve Lead & Excess profitability
- Work with underwriting to provide account level support such as individual account rating, pricing model and tool support, profitability analyses, deep dives, etc.
- Provide clear and concise communication of technical actuarial work to stakeholders
- Partner across multiple functions including underwriting, finance, claims, systems and reserving
- Provide training to underwriters on pricing models, profitability metrics, and other actuarial topics as needed
- Performs actuarial analyses for North America and makes recommendations concerning valuation/reserving, pricing, product development, research/support, business planning, finance or other business area; May prepare and interpret the data used to support rate filings with state departments of insurance. May perform reinsurance analysis
- Lead and develop staff of business analysts and/or actuarial students, get work done through others
- Desire to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment, responding to business demands and a changing marketplace
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Masters degree preferred
- Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) or near-FCAS designation preferred
- 5-10 years progressively responsible experience, including supervisory experience
- Ability to foster teamwork and relationships across organizational line
- Knowledge of underwriting concepts including company/agency relationships’ importance to the business success
- Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively express technical actuarial and statistical concepts to non-technical individuals internal and external to the organization
- Advanced decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
- Expands/maintains Actuarial professional knowledge through society (CAS/AAA) publications and meetings/conferences
