The AVP & Actuary – Portfolio Management is an Officer position and plays a leading role in driving accountability for underwriting strategy execution at CNA.This role will ensure the creation and dissemination of scorecards for strategy execution under the global underwriting committee framework, create individual account scenario analysis tools which help underwriters successfully execute on these strategies, drive execution of analyses to help inform strategic direction combined with actuarial information produced by the core actuarial teams, create monitoring exhibits related to various underwriting strategies, and help underwriting partners understand core actuarial concepts as they related to how strategy execution will manifest over time.
They will lead a team that will use all of CNA’s available data assets to accomplish these objectives. Additionally, this role will be responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day prioritization of the counterpart cloud data and analytics engineering team continues to deliver core capabilities which allow for a full transition of this work away from legacy sources while making the underlying processes more efficient and effective. They will be responsible for interacting with a variety of underwriting and technical leaders in the organization to achieve this goal.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
Develop and implement strategic roadmap as it relates to expanding core capabilities in this area for CNA
Collaborate with underwriting leadership to ensure alignment between accountability and targets at various levels in the organization
Produce data driven scorecards tools leveraging CNA’s modern data and analytics technology suite on a monthly basis
Produce data driven scenario analysis tools leveraging CNA’s modern data and analytics technology suite
Produce ad hoc data analysis as needed to support strategic decisions
Interact with various actuarial, data, and analytics leaders to be able to connect a core understanding of the underlying business with needed analytics to drive strategy execution
Drive prioritization of core cloud based data and analytics features to further CNA’s capabilities in this area using modern value-stream based agile product frameworks
Lead staff with accountability and an emphasis on excellence in execution, talent management, and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
Partner closely with underwriting to implement strategies in a cohesive way that ensures execution at every step across the underwriting process
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Understanding of core commercial insurance concepts and key steps in the underwriting process across various lines of business

Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Actuarial Science or related field required. Master’s Degree in related field preferred.
2. Typically requires Fellowship attainment (FCAS).
3. Typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience, with five years of management experience.

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $143,000 to $228,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
