The Team

We currently seek a Vice President and Actuary, Institutional Markets (IM). This position will report directly to the Chief Finance Actuary (CFA) of IM and will have frequent and regular interaction with the IM management team providing actuarial and finance support across the business unit.

IM has enjoyed substantial growth in the past several years, which is expected to continue, offering a dynamic and positive team environment. The CFA team touches on all actuarial aspects of the IM business leading to a well-rounded view with countless learning and growth opportunities. The position will work with the business as well as a wide variety of supporting functions including Finance, Valuation, Pricing, Experience Studies, Modeling, and Asset Liability Management (ALM).

The IM business includes various product types: Pension Risk Transfer (PRT), Structured Settlements (SS), Guaranteed Investment Contracts (GICs), Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI)/ Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI), High Net Worth (HNW), and Stable Value Wraps (SVW).

Role and Responsibilities

This is a leadership role on the IM CFA team, responsible for supporting IM goals around profitable growth by advancing its strategic initiatives. The role works directly with the CFA to prepare analysis and clearly communicate financial risks and impacts with IM senior leadership. The position's focus will include the following efforts:
  • High quality and value-added analysis of IM's earnings - Provide thoughtful earnings analysis of actuarial items for each block of business, understanding and communicating earnings drivers.
  • Budgeting / Forecasting - Translate earnings understanding into meaningful GAAP (LDTI) and statutory budgets and forecasts, with a focus on statutory capital.
  • Support UK PRT infrastructure - Lead the development of valuation and projection models in AXIS to allow in-house valuation and analysis.
  • Support liability valuation and projection model development - Provide support to the relevant teams to enhance IM's GAAP and statutory liability and asset AXIS projection models. Utilize model results to assess risk and better understand profitability of various inforce blocks.
  • VM-22 Preparation - Lead preparation for VM-22, the NAIC's revisions to statutory valuation for deferred and payout annuities.
  • Strategic planning - Participate in the development of IM strategic plans with respect to both new and in-force business. This will include providing actuarial input and leadership on key issues affecting the business, such as product pricing, assumption setting, risk management and in-force management.
  • Collaborate with and oversee IM-dedicated resources within actuarial teams across pricing, valuation, modeling, and asset-liability management to achieve the strategic objectives of the IM leadership team.
  • Provide "checks and balances" oversight to IM pricing actuaries, through enforcement of pricing standards across IM including methodology and assumption-setting,
  • Lead the annual assumption review and unlocking process for LDTI and Cashflow Testing assumptions,
  • Lead the development of actuarial analyses for economic, statutory, and GAAP purposes, including reconciliation of results across reporting bases, and
  • Provide training and mentorship to the Corebridge actuarial resources supporting IM (whether via direct or indirect reporting lines).


Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the key profit drivers for a variety of products along with statutory and GAAP accounting knowledge is key. More important for this role is a willingness to learn, collaborate and deliver outstanding service while balancing multiple priorities. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with both business partners and business unit actuaries effectively.

Experience
  • This individual must have a bachelor's degree and should be a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA)
  • 15+ years of progressively more responsible actuarial experience
  • Ideal candidate will have a background in payout annuities (PRT, SS)
  • Cross-functional experience desired (valuation, capital management, experience studies, ALM, Market Consistent Embedded Value (MCEV)
  • Demonstrated success working in cross-functional collaborative teams and in working with senior management.
  • Highly motivated and results-oriented
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Desire to deliver a complete work product.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Leadership skills including business collaboration, people skills, thought leadership, and managerial skills.
  • Goal oriented and well-organized, with the ability to develop and manage disciplined processes.

For positions based in Woodland Hills, California or New York, New York the base salary range is $205,000 - $250,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. In addition, we're proud to offer a range of competitive benefits.
