A Brief Overview
This key leadership position oversees all experience studies and assumption development for the USIL business. In addition, the modernized underwriting assumption team, a client facing team charged with developing, implementing and monitoring client's Accelerated Underwriting assumptions, also reports to this position.
What you will do
- Leads and directs the development of new and inforce business assumptions, in collaboration with valuation and the pricing actuaries, for the USIL business. Assumptions include GAAP, Stat, Best Estimate and Pricing for both book of business and client specific applications.
- Voting member of local Assumption Governance Committee (AGC). Responsible for defining multiyear assumption review plan, plus communicating assumption changes, impacts and rational to RGA executives.
- Leads and directs production of experience studies to support internal, client and industry assessment of the business.
- Oversee monitoring, reporting and communicating of biometric results for the USIL business. Foster collaboration between Finance, Valuation and USIL Actuarial to ensure results are produced accurately, consistently and on time. In addition, ensure results are communicated in a clear and concise manner with intuitive supporting documentation.
- Elevate USIL reputation as the biometric risk expert in the industry through actuarial and underwriting modernization research, production of thought leadership, client engagement and industry presentations.
- Leverage new tools and technology to streamline production processes and identify new insights in all facets of responsibilities.
- Transform processes, frameworks and culture to support the USIL mandate for growth, especially focusing on ability to manage "complex liabilities" in the future.
- Be a Talent Champion by fostering the growth and development of staff, building a pipeline of talent, managing succession plans and key person dependencies, facilitate rotations, encourage training programs and establish a positive and winning culture
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Math, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science or related field required
- 15+ Years actuarial experience in Life & Health Industry (specifically Life, Annuity, Retirement) required
- 5+ Years managing a team of 4 or more associates required
- Actuarial experience in product development, reinsurance pricing or assumption setting required
- MAAA/FCIA or other local actuarial organization accreditation preferred
- Reinsurance industry experience preferred
- Experience interacting with insurance regulators preferred
- 10+ years of managerial or leadership experience preferred
- Advanced actuarial skills in pricing and assumptions required
- Expert knowledge of life insurance products required
- Ability to take ownership in projects and drive them to completion required
- Exceptional people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility; foster a teamwork and customer service focused environment required
- Expert ability in implementing change within an organization, ensuring understanding, participation, and ownership required
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders and team members required
- Highly advanced ability to adapt to new methods; work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions required
- Expert skills in managing multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously required
- Highly advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies required
- Ability to create a vision and translate that vision into strategic actions to be implemented by team and/or peers, ensuring vision comes to life in a timely manner required
- Familiarity with new technology and tools including (but not limited to): Artificial Intelligence, Snowflake, SQL, Python, Bower BI, Tableau, Sigma; GGY AXIS required
- Expert ability to foster a teamwork and customer service focused environment
- Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional and technical disciplines required
- Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to reslove issues/problems
- FSA - Fellow of the Society of Actuaries required
- Preferred Skills Advanced knowledge of key financial reporting, accounting, and solvency regimes, including (but not limited to): US GAAP (including FAS 97, FAS 133, FAS 157, SOP 03-1 and LDTI), US Statutory, and US tax; IFRS; and Solvency II.
- Advanced knowledge of new actuarial techniques such as predictive modeling
- Advanced knowledge of life insurance, health insurance, longevity, and/or annuity products
- Advanced knowledge of new technology and tools including (but not limited to): Artificial Intelligence, Snowflake, SQL, Python, Bower BI, Tableau, Sigma
- Expertise in GGY AXIS with familiarity in Prophet and Alpha
- Familiarity with governance best practices especially around assumption setting and data management
- Advanced statistical expertise

Compensation Range:
$230,700.00 - $352,250.00 Annual
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
