As the Sr AVP, NF Actuarial Modeling, you'll lead all aspects of developing, maintaining, and executing integrated actuarial infrastructure including data, models, processes, controls and analytic applications that critically enable all major actuarial functions including pricing, valuation, planning, liquidity, regulatory and risk management. You'll oversee continued evolution and expansion of data governance as well as the analytic infrastructure using modern business intelligence and leveraging new data infrastructure. You'll also oversee development efforts created by external (e.g. accounting and regulatory changes) and internal (e.g. new and updated products, infrastructure changes) events that affect large portions of data/model/analytic infrastructure. We'll count on you to interface with Information Technology (IT) to establish and execute on Actuarial technology that supports the evolving needs in the modeling and analysis spaces, covering actuarial modeling, distributed and cloud computing, process scheduling, administration, and security.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Executes and maintains Actuarial Model Development Cycle across modeling platforms including model conversions as well as ongoing model development activities; ensures compliance with enterprise model risk policies and procedures; and oversees prioritization of competing work supporting the different actuarial functions and products.
- Builds and maintains end to end processes supporting all actuarial functions including data inputs, model execution and delivery of output ready for analytic consumption.
- Oversees adherence to enterprise model and data related standards and works with relevant enterprise functions to ensure appropriateness of standards for NF business.
- Oversees framework for controlled production and ad hoc use of models.
- Oversees development and maintenance of actuarial data repository, facilitating efficient use of data.
- Oversees development and use of analytic infrastructure through use of modern business intelligence tools, enabling data and model users to create insights.
- Oversees development and strategic vision of training, standards, change management and organizational structure necessary to successfully use and leverage modeling and analytic infrastructure.
- Oversees all aspect of interfacing with IT, including establishing, evolving and overseeing IT owned processes and representing actuarial needs in tool and infrastructure selection including emerging technologies.
- Creates framework for successful prioritization of data, modeling, analytic, process/automation and control tasks considering actuarial and IT priorities and constraints.
- Oversees associate management including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organization planning, day-to-day management, hiring and placement, and corrective actions for direct and possibly indirect reports.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, NFS Chief Actuary. Leads a team of three direct reports and twenty-nine indirect reports.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Finance, Actuarial Science, or field with similar mathematical training preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA). Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA).
Experience: Typically, ten or more years of experience in actuarial related work with at least five years of management experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Technical Actuarial expertise in GAAP and stat valuation, strong life insurance and annuity product knowledge. Ability to apply and work with process centric IT approaches. Demonstrated leadership and influence skills, strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with business areas, IT and external vendors desired along with a preference for being innovative and inspiring others to support change. Proven problem-solving, agility, collaboration, decision-making, strategic thinking, strong financial acumen, presentation skills.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.
The national salary range for Sr AVP, NF Actuarial Modeling : $148,000.00-$325,000.00
The expected starting salary range for Sr AVP, NF Actuarial Modeling : $156,000.00 - $290,000.00
