The Team You Will Join
The position is with the Retail Annuities team in MetLife’s actuarial line of business. The team is responsible for the monthly valuation, analysis, and reporting of Statutory Retail Annuity Reserves using actuarial guidelines such as VM21 and New York Principle Based Reserves (NYPBR).
The Opportunity
MetLife’s US Actuarial Development Program (ADP) focuses on developing future leaders of MetLife who will create innovative business solutions based on actuarial principles and contribute to the success of the company. As part of the professional development process, participants (known as “actuarial students”) are expected to rotate to new actuarial assignments approximately every two years within core areas of MetLife’s businesses. Work experience gained will enable participants to become well-rounded actuaries and knowledgeable in several areas of actuarial practice. Such areas of practice may include product development, pricing, valuation, actuarial modeling, risk management, asset liability management, finance, investments, underwriting, emerging actuarial issues, technology, data analysis, and auditing.
Candidate will join the retail annuities valuation team who are responsible for the valuation, analysis, and STAT reporting of variable annuities. It provides the opportunity to learn about fixed and variable deferred annuities with an emphasis on guaranteed benefits and the exposures and risks associated with them. There are various monthly tasks in maintaining the models along with quarterly analyses which are presented to senior management. Our team works on continuously streamlining and improving processes.
How You’ll Help Us Build a Confident Future (Key Responsibilities)
- Create and verify valuation model inputs
- Review controls and trends for analysis
- Maintain and update valuation models in PolySystems and MGHedge
- Assist in valuation requirements such as year-end actuarial memos, rating agency surveys, internal and external audit requests and SOX controls
- Prepare for and take challenging actuarial exams administered through the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and work towards becoming qualified as a fellow of the SOA (FSA designation). The Actuarial Development program will provide study days and other support to participants to help them pass their actuarial exams.
What You Need to Succeed (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or other analytical/business related field
- Passed at least five SOA Actuarial Exams; ASA designation preferred
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Strong technical, mathematical and analytical abilities
- Strong written and oral communication skills
What Can Give You an Edge (Additional Skills)
- Suggested 1+ years of actuarial, accounting or finance related experience
- Experience with Alteryx, VBA or Python
