Risk Management within Equitable is entering the latter stages of its "Separate, Stabilize, Optimize" evolution post-IPO. The function has largely (a) shifted its orientation from "measurement" to "decision influencing" and (b) established its foundation for post-IPO finance/Risk infrastructure. Equitable employs a "Three Lines of Defense" risk management model that spans all activities of the Company. The Liability Governance team is responsible for 2nd line risk oversight of actuarial assumption and product risks across the enterprise. We aim to partner with first line Business and Actuarial teams to promote sound risk thinking and mitigate product, pricing, and assumption risk throughout the organization.
The Lead Risk Analyst - Actuarial Assumption and Product Governance role offers the opportunity to:
- Gain exposure to Business Line leaders as well as other leaders within Actuarial, Finance, and Enterprise Strategy
- Support the strategic direction of the enterprise through the prudent management of actuarial risk embedded in both our in-force liabilities and new business product development
- Deepen understanding of the relative attractiveness of our products, assumptions, models, and processes across markets
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Oversight over actuarial experience studies, including both (i) review and challenge of recommendations from the first-line Actuarial function and (ii) meaningful independent studies by Risk Management on most material assumption
- Review of residual actuarial assumption risks not captured in our liability assumptions to inform capitalization targets and balance sheet management actions
- Stress testing of actuarial assumptions - including mortality, longevity, and policyholder behavior - on both in-force and new products (including those in the development pipeline)
- Risk oversight of the Product Approval Process, including (i) reviewing economics and risk profile - both market and non-market - of products in pipeline; (ii) identifying potential risk mitigation actions and/or product feature changes needed; and (iii) communicating results of Risk review
- Outside-in analyses and benchmarking of the economics and risk profile of Equitable products against those of competitor products to provide insights into market positioning and identify opportunities for product feature enhancements
- Monitoring of underwriting mortality risk metrics, particularly for monitoring risk in accelerated underwriting programs
- Leadership of special projects on product or assumption analysis
- Ad-hoc interaction with Enterprise Strategy team on various strategic initiatives
- Management of 1-2 junior team members
