[ Reporting into the Head of Biometric Research, the Director/AVP will play an integral role leading projects on mortality and morbidity research for North American Life and explore and recommend use of emerging data sources in assumption setting processes and experience studies.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with multiple departments including IA, BT, Pricing and Valuation on biometric research initiatives and work closely alongside the Chief Risk Officer on key research.

Your Job

Department Results
  • Oversees research on mortality, morbidity, lapse and other actuarial assumptions.
  • Works with other departments to ensure data strategy and infrastructure are aligned with the needs of the Biometric Research team.
  • Support initiatives to demonstrate thought leadership internally and externally.
  • Assist the department in maintaining high visibility in the market by supporting and participating at industry meetings and client presentations.
  • Elevate the level of collaboration with other MR departments (eg. UW, Claims, Medical, IA, Pricing, Corporate) to enhance quality and relevance of deliverables (views on mortality, morbidity, lapse, etc).
  • Participate in emerging innovation initiatives.
  • Support creative, value-added solutions.
  • Acts as an expert and provides research support to assist the IL, Group, Underwriting, and Living Benefits area with questions related to research relevant to their areas.
  • Provides peer reviews and contributes to regional and global Life Biometric research projects, initiatives, and systems.
  • Monitors market trends so that Munich Re continually identifies new methods, tools, and processes for assessing biometric risk that are relevant to Munich Re and clients.
  • Works with Marketing to look for ways to enhance the clients' business through leveraging mortality expertise.

Your Profile

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • University Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • FCIA and/or FSA or with 10-15+ years in-depth knowledge and experience in life (re)insurance, with significant experience in pricing of (re)insurance including the assumption setting process.
  • Subject matter expert and in-depth knowledge of mortality risk gained through hands on experience.
  • Experience in leading research efforts and/or projects.
  • Keen strategic thinking, business acumen, and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills.
  • Leadership abilities, with experience in developing a teamwork environment, and a positive work environment and attitude in direct reports.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills across all levels of the organization. Experienced presenter before groups and effectively manages question and answer sessions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; effective at documenting and communicating analysis, findings, and conclusions.
  • Works with all areas of the company collaboratively to achieve results.
  • Well-developed organization skills, with the ability to analyze current processes and procedures and recommend and implement improvements.
  • Able to manage a number of diverse projects and coordinate the activities of others in a performance oriented culture.
  • Advanced Software/application knowledge including - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
