Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, saving enough for whatever lies ahead - our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It's a big ask, but it's one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate - pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better. Why? Because it's the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it's a career with purpose. It's a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future - including your own.

We're actively seeking a talented Director & Actuary to join our Life Profitability Management in Newport Beach, CA; Omaha NE or Lynchburg, VA. This role can be on-site or hybrid.

As a Director & Actuary of Life Profitability Management you'll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by driving meaningful positive impacts to the financial results of Pacific Life through comprehensive and thoughtful analysis, a decisive mindset, strong team development skills, a collaborative spirit, and a "One PL" viewpoint. You will be responsible for Life Profitability Management activities; balancing inforce product profitability and risk. This includes partnering with product and market risk on active management of life non-guaranteed elements, supporting key enterprise initiatives, and building capabilities for business segmentation and resulting strategy development.

You will fill an existing role that leads a team of four people including a mix of FSAs, ASAs and actuarial rotation students. This team sits in the larger Inforce Management team of the Consumer Markets Division (CMD).

How you'll help move us forward:
  • Lead Non Guaranteed Element (NGE) management (Caps/COIs/Dividend).
  • Support NGE policy development to ensure they balance internal strategic goals and market facing brand considerations
  • Provide critical insights/strategies to divisional leadership on inforce spread management.
  • Lead Plan Modeling and analysis for Life Insurance Products.
  • Partner with FP&A team on identifying drivers of plan to actual results.
  • Support enterprise-wide transformation efforts related to model conversions and implementation of the LDTI framework in Plan.
  • Develop business segmentation tools that create insights into what business segments drive profitability.
  • Identify retention strategies for high performing business and partner with division on execution.
  • Identify remediation strategies for underperforming business and partner with division/enterprise on execution.
  • Monitor new business segment performance vs. pricing vs plan
  • Support modeling for enterprise-wide initiatives with a goal of improving the company's capital position through optimization of the inforce block.

The experience you bring:
  • Has an FSA designation.
  • Previous management experience with a small team.
  • Courage to make strategic recommendations that may challenge status quo.
  • Understanding of tradeoffs between precision and timeliness.
  • Excellent project planning skills.

What makes you stand out:
  • Deep understanding of drivers of profit and risk across a variety of life insurance products.
  • Ability to transform complex financial concepts (GAAP, STAT, and Economic regimes) into clear and digestible storytelling.
  • People leader who inspires and encourages new ways of thinking.
  • Working proficiency with Prophet preferred.
