Job Description

What You Will Do:
This is a unique opportunity for an actuarial leader who is adept at analytical thinking. In this role you will oversee a number of strategic projects critical to the long-term success and sustainability of our life products across multiple arenas. You will be part of a small, yet highly visible team that is frequently relied on to ideate and quantify undertakings that are new to the company and address a number of ‘what-if’ requests from senior management.

Although you will primarily function in an ex-production capacity you will, on occasion, be asked to provide supplementary support and analyses. Knowledge of GAAP, IFRS and statutory actuarial techniques will be required. In this role your projects will span the spectrum from valuation (current and future) to reinsurance to capital management and more.

Requirements

  • Leads the preparation and interpretation of actuarial information for presentation to management.
  • Monitors profitability by line of business and/or product and develops supporting reports and/or analyses.
  • Maintains the product line or Corporate process to comply with various state and federal regulations.
  • Deep dives into complex actuarial assumptions and data with recommendations on changes.
  • Monitors and analyzes developments in actuarial techniques, laws and regulations applicable to company operations.
  • Provides guidance and advice regarding modeling methodology or reserving and related matters.
  • Serves as a key resource for completion of one or more major recurring projects during the course of the year.
  • Represents the company on industry and professional committees and/or with regulators.
  • Will manage a team of employees.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or related field, and 10+ years of related actuarial experience.   In lieu of Bachelor's, will accept Master’s in a listed discipline and 8 years experience. 
  • FSA and American Academy of Actuaries membership.
  • Demonstrates high quality leadership, judgment, organization, and prioritization skills. 
  • Exhibits effective management skills to motivate and develop a staff. 
  • Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing, advanced mathematical and analytical concepts to various audiences. 
  • Understand company priorities and adapt to changing needs. 
  • Solid understanding of capital markets and risk/return profiles of various assets.

  • Works well under pressure and within time constraints to effectively accomplish individual and team objectives.
  • Outstanding communication skills for a geographically dispersed audience
  • Ability to create effective relationships, influence and collaborate internally and externally at all organizational levels
  • Highly self-motivated with strong accountability
  • Strong sense of urgency and business deadlines
  • Highly efficient and capable of managing multiple projects concurrently
