The Marketing Actuary will work as part of a deal team with a Business Development RVP, Pricing Actuary, Underwriter, and other cross-functional areas as necessary to develop and price optimal client solutions and ensure MARC's position as a top reinsurance provider. The Marketing Actuary will own and manage, or assist with owning and managing, the P&L for a dedicated set of clients and prospects in the US.

The position will execute and manage reinsurance proposals and provide technical guidance to clients to promote superior partnership and value. This position will be responsible for developing or assisting with the development of innovative client solutions and will contribute to marketing and implementing those solutions with clients.

Job Responsibilities:

Business development

  • Maintain high visibility in the market by meeting with insurers, attending and speaking at industry meetings, publishing articles, and joining pertinent industry committees.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal customers in key functional areas which include pricing, treaty, legal, underwriting, biometrics, integrated analytics, risk management, and reinsurance operations to promote client focus and being a preferred provider.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the annual marketing strategy for key clients under the direction of the Business Development lead.
  • Develop potential leads into tangible business by gathering appropriate internal resources for each opportunity.
  • Ideate new and creative ideas to assist with the development of business/client solutions and make connections among previously unrelated notions.


Client relationship management

  • Address clients' needs in a timely and insightful manner so MARC is seen as a business partner and not just a provider of services.
  • Liaise across key internal departments to meet client requests and also provide innovative client solutions when necessary.
  • Develop industry knowledge and actuarial expertise on reinsurance topics impacting clients.
  • Provide superior value by giving meaningful guidance and insight during client interactions.
  • Use experience and knowledge that provides organizational influence to meet clients' needs.
  • Mentor junior staff and motivate teams.


Treaty pricing and negotiation

  • Lead and oversee reinsurance deals and projects, working with both the client and pricing actuary to assess key risks, set best estimate assumptions, calculate an optimal price that also meets MARC's profit metrics.
  • Approve and facilitate approvals of deals with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with clients and MARC's treaty department to negotiate treaty terms and conditions to provide the necessary protection for MARC. Be MARC's primary negotiator on actuarial aspects of each deal (under the manager's guidance as necessary).
  • Work with treaty to execute treaties and contract amendments.


Financial Results

  • Propose effective solutions and negotiate or assist with negotiation of deals with the goal of maximizing VNB while managing to secondary profit metrics and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with clients.
  • Understand the dynamics which impact the profitability of the business and ensure that problems are discovered early.
  • Highlight potential problems and drive opportunities to unlock value in the financial results of accounts and work with internal teams and the clients to determine the best course of action.


Your Profile:

  • FSA required.
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in U.S. individual life insurance and/or reinsurance required.
  • Experience in direct and/or reinsurance pricing preferred.
  • Experience in public speaking/presenting effectively to groups preferred.

For New York City based employees, the base salary range anticipated for this position is $249,212 to $275,445, plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay.
