Job Description

This Assistant Vice President, Actuary position is responsible for leading and managing the actuarial staff supporting Benchmarq, Chubb's Commercial Package product. The role is based in our Whitehouse, NJ office (location flexible) on a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote) and reports to the Vice President & Actuary for Rating Plans, Systems, & Strategy.

There is flexibility to fill this position at a lower job grade for qualified candidate with less than 8 years of experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with CI management to set priorities for Benchmarq and other new rating plans
  • Manage the Benchmarq Rating Plans & Systems team including setting the staff's priorities/workloads and training/developing
  • Work with CI management to develop/revise rating algorithms, including providing actuarial rate filing support for state regulators
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders including IT, Product Services, and Business Analysts to continuously update, maintain, and document the implementation of our rating algorithms - including our rating externalization initiative
  • Develop processes and databases to facilitate both ad hoc and recurring analyses, and assist in communicating the results of these analyses to audiences with diverse backgrounds
  • Contribute to the creation of tools and dashboards that enable key stakeholders to monitor the performance of the book. Utilize data-driven insights obtained from our experience to support decision-making processes.
  • Work with the predictive analytics team to support CI underwriting initiatives


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of actuarial pricing or reserving experience, or a combination of relevant industry experience and technical skills.
  • ACAS or FCAS certification preferred, or equivalent industry qualifications. We recognize alternative paths to gaining expertise, so if you have different certifications or relevant qualifications, we are open to considering them.
  • Proficiency in Excel is required. Familiarity with programming languages and tools such as Radar / SQL / R / Python is advantageous but not required. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience is beneficial, but not required. We are open to individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential in other ways, such as leading projects or mentoring colleagues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to excel in this role.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills are required, along with the ability to prioritize multiple competing deliverables and manage time effectively to meet scheduled due dates.
  • Strong collaboration skills are important, with the ability to work closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
