The AVP Actuary, Commercial Product Development and Regulatory role will lead a large team overseeing both filings for bureau adoptions and proprietary products. A successful candidate will have extensive experience in commercial lines product filings and regulatory interaction. Preferred candidates will have significant experience with actuarial support for filings but not required to be an accredited Actuary.

Your Role

Lead a team of actuaries to support product development across Arch Insurance business units by developing rate proposals in collaboration with decision makers, providing filing strategies, being a creative sounding board to businesses, and preparing actuarial support for rate filings including indication, impact analysis, competitor research, and state-specific exhibits, etc.

Drive overall improvement in our cross-departmental Product Development and Speed-to-Market initiatives.

Enhance tools and processes to improve efficiency through automation, and improve analyses quality by enhancing methodologies and incorporating alternative data sources.

Coordinate and assist in the response to state rate filing objections and help negotiate for speedy approvals.

Ensure rates filed and implemented into various systems are in compliance and competitive through User-Acceptance-Testing and industry/competitors rate comparison.

Monitor and initiate bureau filings for rate and rule adoptions; review and interpret insurance regulations, bulletins, and publications to help determine rate impact and compliance risks for business units

Provide pricing support to help grow small commercial business profitably

Responsibilities:

Leadership: Strength and experience as a teacher, manager, peer, leader and contributor to a positive culture

Experience: knowledge of primary & excess pricing and product filings in admitted lines, and engaging with DOIs Efficiency, productivity and organizational skills, including ability to manage cross-functional team without reporting relation.

Analytical and quantitative skills: theoretical foundation, work quality, productivity, creativity, ingenuity Superior Communication skills are important for partnering with cross-functional business partners

Software skills: Excel, Word, Power Point, database and SQL expected; R, Python and other programming skills a plus

Skills/Experience:

Most Vice Presidents are qualified actuaries with 15-20 years of experience, but exceptional performers have been recognized as early as 10 years.

P&C actuarial qualifications: ACAS or FCAS preferred, not required.

For individuals assigned or hired to work in California, Colorado, Jersey City, NJ; New York State; and/or Washington State, the base salary range is listed below. This range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$148,400 - $230,322/year

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs.  The above range may be modified in the future
