Position Description: The Actuarial Manager is responsible for coordination and enhancement of several key pricing functions, including but not limited to ceded reinsurance pricing, rate monitoring, planning, pricing tools, and data strategy. This role touches all of Hudson's lines of business and will have regular exposure to senior management. In order to be successful, he/she must be able to work as a team member not only within the actuarial department but also develop relationships and frequently work with other departments. He/She must demonstrate superior knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, SQL and R or Python for statistical learning. In addition, he/she must be detailed-oriented, prioritize, and timely complete all tasks and comply with department policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:
  • Performs or oversees actuarial analyses and manages the process by which they are completed.
  • Communicates results/indications/proposals to senior company management.
  • Participates in ceded reinsurance submissions and analyses to maximize economic benefit from treaties.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact corporate and department goals and objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the company and department.
  • Management potential - possibly to have one direct report depending on candidate experience.


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Strong drive and commitment to the role.
• Proficiency with SQL or other data manipulation tools.
• Proficiency with R, Python, or SAS is a plus.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be detailed-oriented.
• Solid understanding of actuarial mathematics concepts, such as limited expected value and survival probability of various severity distributions
• Ability to maintain the confidentiality of company-sensitive data.

Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or Computer Science.
• ACAS or FCAS designation.
• 3-7 years of experience in a property and casualty actuarial role.
• Combination of Insurance and Reinsurance Pricing experience is a plus.
