Job Summary

As part of the senior management team, this role is responsible for establishing and enforcing risk policies, metrics and tolerances, actuarial governance standards for assumptions, models, pricing and valuation, and the actuarial aspects of regulatory compliance, to protect the company’s financial stability and support long-term strategic goals. This position involves close collaboration with Actuarial Modeling, Corporate Finance & Accounting, and other departments across the organization to implement a comprehensive risk and governance framework aligned with the company’s mission and strategy, regulatory standards, and governance requirements.

  • This position plays a key leadership role in both governance and risk management by overseeing the organization’s Actuarial Governance function and by leading the development and implementation of the organization’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework in alignment with the Chief Risk Officer’s strategic direction.
  • Employees in this role are eligible for fully remote work. Occasional travel only (such as for planning purposes, team building, or conferences) may be required.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management, actuarial governance, or a related field with a focus on regulatory compliance and enterprise risk in the insurance industry.
  • Strong demonstrated people leadership including leadership of other people leaders.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in related field & professional licensure or certification:  Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent international designation, with additional financial or risk management credentials a plus (e.g., CFA, PRM, CRM, CERA, etc.).
  • Strategy development and execution through team engagement and empowerment.
  • Promulgate the organization’s risk appetite and establish and enforce consistent risk policies aligned with organizational goals, in coordination with ERM and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee statutory certifications, compliance reports, and coordinate Cash Flow Testing (CFT) to meet regulatory standards, including orphaned business reporting.
  • Direct the review and approval process for actuarial assumptions, model governance, valuation and pricing oversight, and reinsurance governance, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Develop ERM policies, risk monitoring frameworks, and reporting standards, supporting proactive risk identification, assessment, and mitigation across financial and non-financial risks.
  • Consult on enterprise risks (both financial and non-financial) and oversee the establishment and monitoring of ERM metrics and targets.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of ERM dashboards, ensuring risk metrics are accurately represented, timely, actionable, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) process and oversee regulatory filings, including Form F and other reporting requirements.
  • Direct the second line of defense review for the Economic Solvency Ratio under the JFSA’s solvency framework and assume responsibility for ESR verification, supporting regulatory compliance.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.

 

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$182,000.00 - $363,750.00
