Job Description
We are seeking a Workers Compensation Actuary to join our North America Pricing team, preferably in our New York City office. The primary responsibility of this position will be pricing support and profitability monitoring of the Workers Compensation business, with ample opportunity to be involved in a broad array of projects and to contribute more broadly to Sompo International’s success.
Main areas of Responsibility:
- Provide strategic actuarial leadership for the Workers Compensation portfolio
- Collaborate with underwriting to derive insights and initiatives to improve the profitability of the business
- Identify key characteristics to improve risk selection and pricing
- Monitor and reflect key legislative and environmental changes in the Workers Compensation environment
- Review work-product from junior members of the actuarial team
- Develop & maintain a suite of performance monitoring reports that provide management insight into the health of the portfolios
- Provide pricing support on individual large accounts
- Leverage both internal and benchmark data to develop greater insight into the business
- Review, monitor, and enhance the pricing / underwriting tools used to provide up to date, precise and consistent indications
- Build and maintain dashboards of key actuarial metrics (rate change, business mix, loss trends, etc.) and fulfil ad-hoc reporting requests
- Stay abreast of emerging technology and trends to continually improve existing process and capabilities
- Support corporate level actuarial projects, including providing input to Reserving, Capital Modeling, and Ceded Re
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Near or recent ACAS/FCAS qualification preferred
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal capabilities
- Prior experience with Workers Compensation
- Comprehensive understanding of an insurance company's multifaceted operations
- Robust analytical and problem-solving aptitude
- Deep familiarity with standard actuarial methods and best practices
- Proficiency in Excel and at least one programming language (Python, R, SQL, DAX) is a plus
- Ability to independently handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- An individual who is curious, adaptive, open to innovative solutions, and keen on learning is highly desired
Salary Range: $110,000 - $175,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience
