Job Description

This Vice President & Actuary position is responsible for leading and managing the actuarial staff in the Workers Compensation pricing unit of Commercial (CI) Actuarial. The role is based in either Whitehouse, NJ or Philadelphia, PA with some flexibility for additional locations. The role reports to the Lead Actuary for Commercial Insurance. There is flexibility to fill this position at a lower job grade for qualified candidate with less than 10 years of experience.

Duties and Responsibilities related to these product lines:
  • Work closely with CI management to set priorities for Workers Compensation and Construction
  • Manage the actuarial pricing team including setting the staff's priorities/workloads and training/developing
  • Work with CI management to review manual rates and perform dislocation analysis in support of NCCI/bureau loss cost updates
  • Work with the predictive analytics team to support CI underwriting initiatives, including WC pricing model development
  • Coordinate actuarial support for multi-line Construction portfolio
  • Oversee large account pricing work
  • Complete annual pricing studies, as well as ad-hoc pricing study requests
  • Oversee annual loss trend analysis and quarterly monitoring
  • Complete monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements for price monitoring
  • Assist in developing the annual financial plan
  • Support the purchase and placement of reinsurance
  • Complete quarterly dividend declarations and annual dividend reserve analysis


Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of actuarial pricing or reserving experience preferably in casualty lines (WC/Auto/GL)
  • ACAS or FCAS certification preferred, or equivalent industry qualifications.
  • Proficiency in Excel is required. Familiarity with programming languages and tools such as Radar / SQL / R / Python is advantageous but not required. Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience is strongly preferred, but not required. We are open to individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential in other ways, such as leading projects or mentoring colleagues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential to excel in this role.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills are required, along with the ability to prioritize multiple competing deliverables and manage time effectively to meet scheduled due dates.
  • Strong collaboration skills are important, with the ability to work closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
