This is an opportunity within the Workers’ Compensation line of business (WC LOB) pricing actuarial team, supporting an approximately $3B book across both Small (SC) and Middle/Large (MLC) segments. The Hartford is a market leader within the WC industry with significant visibility from leadership.
This position supports the WC Actuarial team in the execution of rate filings and internal/external indications. The individual will have the opportunity to directly work with a variety of business partners including product, data science, IT, and multiple teams across actuarial. We are looking for individuals who are curious and motivated to improve current processes and who can communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
As a key member of the WC LOB Actuarial team, this individual will perform a variety of actuarial functions including:
- Support the WC Actuarial team in the execution of rate filings, taking ownership of key states and driving execution of The Hartford’s pricing goals. This includes:
- Working with partners in SC & MLC Product to develop state-specific pricing strategies.
- Understanding rates developed and filed by industry rating bureaus and communicating their impact on The Hartford’s book of business.
- Answering objections from state insurance departments.
- Participate in annual internal indications updates and communicate results to business partners and senior management. This work will also involve working in tandem with the team responsible for annual loss ratio planning to align assumptions used and incorporate results into the base year loss ratio selection.
- Foster a strong connection between teammates and key business partners. Collaborate with our product business partners to address rate concerns and support business initiatives.
- Stay apprised of broader industry trends and perspectives.
Experience & Skills
- 3+ years of P&C insurance actuarial experience.
- ACAS/ASA preferred. Candidates with actuarial experience not pursuing exams will be considered for this opportunity.
- Proven analytical and critical thinking skills, with thorough attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively in an environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Proactive individual who challenges existing processes, can influence others, and is able to drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines.
- Demonstrated Excel skills required and experience with R and/or SQL preferred.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
