Our Financial Actuaries are on the frontlines, quantifying risk, pricing insurance and reserving losses for AIG’s major regulated and rated insurance operating companies globally. Portfolio Analytics and Pricing Actuaries support AIG’s businesses and are responsible for technical pricing, product development analytics and performance measurement. They collaborate with Marketing, Operations and Financial Management.

About the role:

We are seeking an actuarial professional with industry expertise to assist with pricing the Lexington Commercial Property business.  The Actuary will be responsible for profitability studies, portfolio deep dives, working with underwriters on large account pricing, and pricing model development and enhancements.  They will partner with other pricing actuaries in implementing best practices analytical techniques, partner with reserving actuaries in assessing the impact of loss trends and claims emergence, and partner with underwriters in assessing the impact of changes in appetite and portfolio mix.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the profitability of Lexington Commercial Property segments which include Wholesale Property, Alternative Risk Property, and Builders Risk.
  • Support the planning process while collaborating with the business unit, cat modeling, finance, and other actuarial teams.
  • Work closely with underwriting to develop pricing and underwriting strategies and identify pockets of profitable growth opportunities.
  • Monitor rate, exposure, retention, new, and lost business changes.  Monitor loss trends and relevant industry/regulatory changes and effectively communicate to management.
  • Provide business solutions to maximize risk adjusted profit. Develop analytical tools to help business effectively manage existing portfolios.
  • Work with catastrophe modeling outputs to manage exposure accumulation and monitor price adequacy.
  • Work closely with reserving actuaries to understand reserve development and inform them of pricing and underwriting actions that will impact reserve estimates.
  • Research and develop advanced pricing techniques.
  • Research and develop best practices pricing techniques to be implemented across the business.
  • Mentor junior members of the team by setting a positive example and sharing insights on actuarial processes and techniques.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related area
  • ACAS, or near ACAS
  • 4+ years of actuarial experience in commercial lines P&C insurance, commercial property pricing or reserving experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Python, R, Excel, SQL or other programming languages preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Solid understanding of catastrophe modeling fundamentals
  • Strong business and collaboration skills and responsive to service needs and operational demands
  • Effective time management skill
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Customer focus

For positions based in NYC, the base salary range is $90,000-$127,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
