Ameriprise Financial has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Staff Actuary! This role will be responsible for developing, improving, operating, and documenting a variety of complex actuarial models, and reviewing work done by their team. You will perform actuarial, financial, and risk analysis, and communicate the results to others across the company, including management. As a Senior Staff Actuary, you will have expanded scope and responsibilities within projects, serving as the subject matter expert in assigned projects while also providing people leadership to lower-level actuarial staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the team responsible for the VM-20 valuation and universal life stat reserve process. This includes calculating, analyzing, documenting, and communicating results effectively to leaders and peers across various functional groups.
  • Heavily involved in Prophet enhancement projects for all life insurance reserves, development of monthly processes, and creation of analytical tools.
  • Drive various projects, including end-to-end valuation automation, etc.
  • Review, build, and present exhibits for year-end reporting.
  • Validate, develop, and enhance business controls.
  • Review technical work done by other members of team or business partners.
  • Assist with project planning within area and determine resource needs.
  • Provide direct people leadership to actuarial staff. Manage performance, seeks professional development opportunities for direct report(s), and provide the coaching and feedback necessary to have a high performing team.
  • Participate in professional development to maintain actuarial credentials.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or related disciplines
  • ASA with 8 years of actuarial experience or FSA with 6 years of actuarial experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate well to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong technical abilities (Excel, actuarial modeling software)


Preferred Qualifications
  • FSA Designation
  • Prophet/Prophet Enterprise experience
  • Experience with MS Excel, MS Access, and other database applications

Base Pay Salary

The estimated base salary for this role is $128,400 - $173,300 / year. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
