Responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership: Provide strategic technical direction for the design, development, and implementation of actuarial software systems, including risk modeling, valuation tools, experience studies and financial reporting applications.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop the team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment that emphasizes professional growth and high performance.
  • Domain Collaboration: Work closely with actuarial teams to understand complex actuarial models and translate them into effective technical solutions setting a strategic roadmap that rationalizes the technical footprint while maximizing value to the actuarial function.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the delivery of high-quality software through rigorous code reviews, testing protocols, and adherence to engineering best practices.
  • Architectural Guidance: Partner with our architecture team to ensure scalability, reliability, and security, while meeting regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about industry regulations and ensure that software solutions are compliant with insurance and financial industry standards.
  • Innovation: Drive technological innovation by integrating emerging technologies that enhance actuarial analysis and reporting capabilities.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with other departments such as Risk, Finance, and IT Operations to ensure seamless integration and functionality.


Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Actuarial Science, or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: 8+ years of experience in software engineering, 6+ years experience in delivery of large-scale projects, 4+ years in a leadership role managing software engineering teams. Preferred: Experience within the insurance industry, specifically supporting actuarial functions, is highly desirable.
  • Technical: Proficiency in programming languages and data solutions relevant to actuarial systems primarily AWS native capabilities (Redshift, S3, Athena, Glue, Airflow) as well as Python, .NET and SQL
  • Technical: Proficiency with grid computing and operating actuarial modeling platforms across various infrastructure set ups
  • Technical: Experience with statistical modeling, data analysis tools, and actuarial software.
  • Technical: Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and microservices architecture.
  • Technical: Ability to leverage and lead a team in the use of CI/CD and DevOps tools, such as, Jenkins, BitBucket and Terraforms
  • Preferred Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of actuarial principles, insurance products, and risk management. Knowledge of regulatory standards such as IFRS, GAAP, or equivalent.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to build and manage high-performing engineering teams, with a focus on motivation, mentorship, and professional development leveraging a variety of resource models.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to address complex technical challenges and provide innovative solutions.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry Experience: Familiarity with life insurance, annuities, or retirement services.
  • Methodologies: Experience implementing agile methodologies and DevOps practices within engineering teams.
  • Tools and Technologies: Knowledge of actuarial software platforms and experience with big data technologies.

The Salary for this position generally ranges between $160,000 - $190,000 annually hour. This range is an estimate, based on potential qualifications and operational needs. Salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.

Additionally, this position is typically eligible for an Annual Bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company's discretion.
