Position Summary

  • This position is responsible for pricing and risk management for the Professional Employer Organization (PEO) segment. Collaborate with internal Finance, Sales, and Underwriting business partners as well as external PEOs, consultants, and brokers to provide sound risk management advice. Anticipate and recognize matters that materially affect financial results and make sound, unbiased recommendations on these matters.
  • In addition to your own case load, manage 2-4 staff of actuaries and underwriters to support smaller customers
  • Responsible for creating efficiency improvements to underwriting team and standardizing best practices
  • Influence PEOs, consultants, and brokers to utilize best practice models, underwriting, and risk management to protect Aetna's financial integrity
  • Calculate and analyze annual renewal rate increases for each PEO and optimize the recommended strategy to allocate the large group rate increase to the individual client level
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis of performance drivers and recommend corrective actions


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree along with 5+ years relevant work experience in actuarial or related fields
  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries)
  • Experience in creating and delivering claim and/or performance reporting
  • Strong understanding of employer-sponsored medical insurance
  • Understanding of SQL or similar languages to query and manipulate data
  • Strong Communication skills for internal collaboration and external customer interactions


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of PEO industry and dynamics
  • Knowledge of Small Group and Large Group distinctions and nuances
  • Knowledge of medical underwriting

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$75,400.00 - $182,549.40


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
