Due to an internal promotion, CNA Insurance is seeking an experienced Senior Actuarial Consultant with the analytical ability and technical expertise to perform complex actuarial reserve reviews, identify key drivers and actionable insights, and communicate these effectively to leadership and business partners.
In this role you will develop and recommend actuarial reserve strategies for the Specialty P&C segment with a focus on medical malpractice and professional liability products. This role requires close collaboration with business partners at all levels and Actuarial senior leaders as you will serve as a trusted advisor to influence business decisions and formulation of business strategy through delivery of thorough actuarial analyses and insights. The lines of business are generally long-tailed, dynamic and heavily influenced by differing internal and external forces so keeping on top of industry wide trends is also key.
In this position you will enjoy a hybrid work schedule determined by the needs of the business that typically consists of one day per week in one of our CNA Actuarial Hub offices (Chicago, IL; New York City, NY; Warren, NJ; Radnor, PA; or San Francisco, CA) with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely. JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Establishes relationship with business partners and functional subject matter experts, provides actuarial guidance as needed.
- Builds strong relationships with peers, business partners and leaders in order to influence the segment's strategy through the use of actionable insights and analytics.
- Provides analyses and insights to assist in determining reserving strategy for assigned lines of business and completes quarterly reserve reviews and SOX requirements.
- Proactively monitors reserving and claim trends for assigned lines of business and shares results with recommendations to leaders and Claim, Underwriting and Pricing business partners.
- Provides guidance to less experienced team members and manages projects as needed.
- Produces highly technical actuarial analyses and reports. Communicates findings to other analytical staff and management.
- Stays up to date in actuarial expertise and industry trends and development.
- Creates, maintains, and enhances processes to increase efficiency of reviewing products while maintaining clear documentation of methods.
- Good time management with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage work deliverables effectively.
- Prepares or coordinates the preparation of standard reports, actuarial portions of financial statements, as well as special reports for management.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

- Strong knowledge of core functions of an insurance company and general actuarial and statistical concepts.
- Advanced actuarial technical expertise and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively to communicate and influence using analyses at various levels, including senior leadership.
- Experience building successful business partnerships.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issues.
- Solid project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and lead teams.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and make critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority based on data analyses and reviews.
- Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems.
- Ability to incorporate business partner feedback into actuarial methodology and selections where appropriate.
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software systems including processing systems and applications. Knowledge of R is preferred.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
- Typically a minimum of seven years of related work experience.
- ACAS designation and working towards FCAS. May include those that have attained their FCAS.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $71,000 to $133,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
