Zurich North America is looking for a Senior Actuarial Consultant for our growing Special Lines Pricing team, ideally based out of our North American Headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois, New York City, NY, Overland Park KS, or one of Zurich’s offices nationwide.

The Senior Actuarial Consultant and Technical Underwriting Actuarial Team will support the actuarial and various underwriting leaders as well as responsible for the pricing process for Accident, Health, & Travel Strategic Business Unit. The Senior Actuarial Consultant and team will partner with Line of Business Pricing, Reserves, Data Analytics and Technical Underwriting teams, among others, to ensure optimal outcomes. This will include portfolio performance analysis, pricing tool performance, individual large account pricing, and rating plan effectiveness.

Additional Senior Actuarial Consultant responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate field tiering execution, including working with Accident, Health, & Travel Strategic Business leadership on business intent tiering selections, analysis related to tiering signals, and coordination with Portfolio Analytics team
  • Complete and eventually lead, independent top-down analysis and assessment of underwriting and reserving methodology and approaches, including specific targeted deep dive analyses on pricing, reserves and underwriting risk related to the Middle Market books of business
  • Provide consultation on actuarial models, risk issues, and rating plan effectiveness for Middle Market, including pricing tool performance and appropriateness
  • Support Technical Underwriters on pricing decisions and development of effective premium/rating structure and strategies in support of business objectives, including support related to pricing for individual Middle Market accounts
  • Analysis related to understanding profit drivers on portfolio and book segments and communicate insights as needed
  • Partner with Technical Underwriters and Actuaries to determine and monitor KPI’s related to the Middle Market portfolios

Basic Qualifications:

  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice, including Associates Degree
    OR
  • Bachelors Degree
    AND
  • 5 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus FCAS or equivalent international certification
    OR
  • 10 or more years of experience in the Actuarial area plus ACAS or equivalent international certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in multiple functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management) and knowledge/skills reflective of a senior practitioner
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

The salary range for this role is $158,400-$198,000. This is the range Zurich NA in good faith believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of the posting. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in New York City. Base pay offered may vary depending on, but not limited to education, experience, skills, geographic location, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.  This job is also bonus eligible. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable.
