Consider this newly created Senior Actuarial Consultant role where you will develop and recommend pricing and perform profitability review for CNA's dynamic and growing Warranty Consumer & Commercial Products business unit. You will enjoy working with a variety of products from home warranty, appliance and cellphone to agricultural equipment and shipping parcel protection. In this role, you will get the opportunity to collaborate with business partners at all levels as well as with senior actuarial leaders. This position serves as a trusted advisor providing actuarial analysis and insight to both technical and non-technical audiences, influencing pricing decisions and long-term strategies.

In this position, you will enjoy a hybrid work schedule that consists of one day per week in one of our CNA Actuarial Hub offices (New York City, NY; Warren, NJ; Radnor, PA; Chicago, IL and San Francisco, CA) with the option to work the remainder of your week remotely.

Applicants at both the consultant and senior consultant levels will be considered, position level will be determined based on qualifications.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Establishes relationship with business partners and functional subject matter experts, provides actuarial guidance as needed.
  • Complete profitability reviews, collateral reviews, profit sharing & other calculations according to annual schedule. 
  • Analyzes feature detailed segmentation of results as necessary to fully inform management regarding performance of the business. Reports business progress to senior management, makes recommendations as required.
  • Provide pricing to new accounts.  May create and modify existing tools/analytics as needed.
  • Remains current on state issues and regulations, industry activity and trends.
  • Provide support to rate filing.
  • Continually improve processes and maintain clear documentation of methods / assumptions.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of core functions of an insurance company and actuarial and statistical concepts.
  • Advanced actuarial technical expertise and knowledge on Warranty products.
  • Ability to effectively to communicate and influence using analyses at various levels, including senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively resolve complex situations and issues with limited data.
  • Solid project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and lead teams. 
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency; utilizes and manages all available resources to meet due dates.
  • Capable of making critical business decisions effectively within scope of authority.
  • Ability to creatively and effectively manage through ambiguous and challenging problems, leads through change.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of five to seven years of related work experience. Position level will be determined based on qualifications.
  • ACAS designation and working towards FCAS. May include those that have attained their FCAS.
  • Experience with Arius and Alteryx, a plus

In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In California, Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $71,000 to $133,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
