Liberty Mutual is looking for a driven Senior Actuarial Analyst to join our State Auto Commercial Auto Actuarial Team. This team is primarily responsible for developing and filing rates and product enhancements; including ad hoc profitability, loss ratio analysis/reporting/planning. This involves compiling, validating, and interpreting statistics; assimilating and reviewing market data; and communicating recommendations and strategies to all levels of management. This team works closely with product management, IT, filings, reserving, claims, modeling, and data analytics.

The Senior Actuarial Analyst will have responsibility for updating the indications and trend analysis, performing state rate reviews and class plan analysis, developing and performing regular reporting, and creating process improvements. This position requires a highly organized, self-motivated individual with strong technical skills, verbal and written communication skills and experience managing complex projects.

**This position may have in-office requirements depending on the candidate's location.**

**This position is eligible for study hours towards completing CAS designations.**

Ideal experience includes:
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, and other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Strong data manipulation skills including the ability to query, consolidate, and test for desired results.
  • Ability to create effective data visualizations and presentations. Interpersonal skills, and inclination to collaborate directly with business partners in various functions across the enterprise.
  • Very strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and with a high degree of competency.
  • Able to solve common problems independently, and new problems using creativity, innovative analysis, and a strong network of co-workers as appropriate.
  • Strong experience in SQL, SAS, Python, or R.


Qualifications

  • Proven math and analytical skills, as normally acquired through the pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Actuarial Science, or related field.
  • Commitment to achieving Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society.
  • Passing grades on a minimum of 5 Casualty Actuarial Exams is required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience required; Prior experience and solid knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Solid oral and written and presentation communication skills and ability to interact effectively within and outside the organization.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and motivate and train subordinates.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, and apply independent judgment and well-developed critical thinking skills in execution of assignments and projects.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects with minimal direction.
  • Advanced computing skills (MS Office Excel, SQL, SAS, etc.); Ability to build models of moderate complexity.
