This Principal Actuary position is a highly visible role part of the ERM Actuarial Team. This is an excellent opportunity to broaden your skillset to all aspects of our Enterprise Risk Management program. In this role, you will be part of a collaborative team with the opportunity to serve on enterprise governance committees and initiatives, support ALM strategy, and drive enhancements to our overall enterprise risk framework.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
ALM Governance and Risk Management
- Support risk management of Securian’s liability-based investment portfolios, establishing appropriate risk tolerances and effective ALM
- Lead analysis of ALM-related risk frameworks (liquidity, credit, and interest rate risk), including explanation of results and developing recommendations for management actions
- Engage with ALM Group, presenting and generating topics as needed, and executing policies set forth by the group
- Provide thought leadership to ALM reporting, assumption-setting, and financial projections
- Lead cross-functional projects to enhance ALM risk frameworks
Strategic Asset Allocation and General Account Strategy
- Support annual Strategic Asset Allocation process, including oversight of risk/return quantification, balance sheet projections, and engagement with stakeholders
- Collaborate with Solutions Groups on strategic ALM initiatives to drive growth and profitability of products within risk appetite
- Partner with Securian Asset Management on General Account strategy, leading risk analysis and facilitating appropriate governance and monitoring for new asset strategies
- Lead education and engagement efforts to ensure strong ALM risk culture and awareness
ERM Governance and enterprise initiatives
- Provide leadership on enterprise committees/governance groups, where appropriate
- Aid in preparation and present as needed to executive risk committees (Risk Council, etc.)
- Serve as ERM representative on enterprise projects
- Contribute expertise to ERM initiatives including ORSA, Embedded Value, and capital management
Qualifications:
- ASA or near-FSA actuarial designation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with curiosity and initiative necessary to analyze product designs, risk, and other project results
- Solid technical aptitude with the ability to learn and use a variety of tools
- Written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact with management, actuarial, underwriting and distribution associates
- Self-motivated and flexible; ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Job Requirements:
- Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for up to 8 hours per day 2-4 hours per day
- Ability to utilize telephone for 2-4 hours per day
- Ability to perform grasping tasks 2-4 hours per day (examples: handwriting, grasping of equipment/machines, paper manipulation, sorting, folding, handling stacks of paper)
