Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Pricing Actuary, Property in our North America Property Pricing team.

This position will be responsible for pricing and profitability monitoring of the various Property segments with ample opportunity to get involved in a broad array of projects and to contribute more broadly to Sompo International’s wider needs.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Perform profitability studies to identify pockets of opportunity and target areas for remediation.
  • Support annual planning process by providing inputs on prospective loss ratios, rate changes and other actuarial assumptions and metrics.
  • Work with underwriters on quantifying prior underwriting changes and on developing new strategies to help improve the portfolio.
  • Review, monitor, and enhance the raters / pricing models used throughout the company to provide up to date, precise and consistent indications across all lines of business.
  • Construct & maintain the data pipelines and data tables that provide us with an analytics edge.
  • Build and maintain dashboards of key actuarial metrics (rate change, business mix, loss trends, etc.) and fulfil ad-hoc reporting requests.

What you’ll bring:

  • ACAS or near FCAS preferred
  • 4-6 years of actuarial experience with 1-2 years of experience with property lines preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to challenge the status quo by identifying and remediating deficiencies
  • Solid understanding of conventional actuarial techniques and standards of practice
  • Experience managing a small team preferred but not required
  • Proficient in Excel and one or more programming languages (Python, R, SQL, DAX preferred)

Salary Range: $110,000 – $175,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
