The purpose of this role is to join our Pricing Actuaries in meeting the analytical and pricing support required by the MS Amlin Insurance Division.

The Pricing Actuary role will be part of a team of sixteen (and a wider Technical Pricing team of twenty four people), providing coverage for Insurance businesses across Casualty, Crisis Management, Marine, Natural Resources and Property & Allied lines. The primary focus will be to the Property & Allied lines subdivision which corresponds to over £500m of gross premium.

What you’ll spend your time doing:
While there is rarely a ‘typical’ day as a Pricing Actuary, here’s a snapshot of some of the key parts of the job:

  • Develop a strong working relationship with the other members of the Technical Pricing team, Underwriters, and teams under the Director of Underwriting Performance;

  • Manage & develop members of the Insurance Pricing team within Technical Pricing;

  • Lead the development and deployment of pricing models into our pricing platforms and ensure that models comply with the Technical Pricing Framework (“TPF”) and Pricing Policy;

  • Analyse and interpret both external and internal data to create robust technical pricing models that support business objectives and improve underwriting profitability.

  • Be the primary support to underwriters in actuarial & technical issues, including case pricing, renewal monitoring, Expected Loss Cost calculations and business planning, challenging where appropriate

  • Support the Pricing leaders with governance / reporting up to management and board level committees (i.e. preparing concise communications to support technical analyses)

  • Support the business and underwriters on other actuarial related matters such as Reserving and Internal Model parameterisation;

  • Maintain and develop management information available for analysis and reporting;

  • Liaise with other functions within the company such as Catastrophe Modelling and our IT colleagues in Pricing Modelling Development when required;

  • Continue to develop professionally.

What you’ll need:

For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:

Core skills:

  • Experience in Insurance Actuarial roles, with significant exposure to Lloyds & London Market Pricing and a deep understanding of market best practices.

  • Proven ability to work with complex data, statistical analysis, and actuarial modelling, ideally with a track record of developing and overseeing pricing models.

  • Experience interpreting Catastrophe modelling outputs and integrating these into pricing decisions.
    Experience in developing high talent

  • Have a real skill and affinity for working with numbers, being in a role involving statistical analysis, or working towards an actuarial or similar qualification.

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) including capacity to manage dialogue with senior stakeholders in the business.

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to work well under pressure.

Advantageous skills:

  • A talent to think laterally in order to develop solutions to support the continued improvement of services by the Technical Pricing team.

  • Ideally a qualified member of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries or similar.

  • Experience of and comfortable using programming languages such as SQL, Python and VBA.

  • A grounding in a numerical subject, such as an undergraduate degree in Mathematics.
