The position is part of the Global Specialty US Actuarial team supporting the $800 million Financial Lines (D&O, EPL, E&O, Cyber) book of business. This position provides the candidate with the unique opportunity to interact with different functional areas including Underwriting, Claims, and Finance.
Responsibilities
As a key member of the Global Specialty Actuarial team, this individual will perform a variety of actuarial functions including:
- Perform loss ratio planning and budgeting.
- Refine and update rating and pricing models.
- Perform semi-annual reserve reviews.
- Collaborate with business partners to provide accurate views of profitability and perform analytics that identify and address business issues.
- Seek out innovative approaches to apply R/SQL skills to enhance existing processes.
Experience & Skills
- Degree in math, actuarial science, economics, or other quantitative analytic field.
- 3-5+ years of actuarial experience.
- Progress towards ACAS/FCAS preferred but not required. This role can be part of our Actuarial Student Program for a qualified candidate meeting requirements for entry into the program. The Actuarial Student Program provides ultimate support and rewards for passing actuarial exams.
- Demonstrated technical, analytical and data skills; Excel required and experience with R and/or SQL preferred.
- Proven analytical and critical thinking skills, with thorough attention to detail.
- Thought leader who seeks new ways to approach analysis and projects to solve business problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to audiences of various levels and diverse technical backgrounds.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
