Position Overview
The Executive Director & Actuary will be a leader within a dynamic financial reporting and analysis group. Leading self and others to achieve, deliver and explain timely financial results is a key responsibility of this role. Managing projects across and maintaining excellent relationships with the Legal Entity, Corporate, Finance, Operations, Pricing and Risk Management teams are also key components of the role.
The role also leads activities supporting corporate planning, risk reporting, the enhancement of financial models and infrastructure, assumption review, economic capital, value measures and development of processes used within the valuation team. It is expected that the successful candidate provides expertise in valuation, financial analysis, risk management, technical and project management practices as needed.
This position may work remotely from locations in the US, APAC and Canada
Responsibilities
- Leads US GAAP, US Statutory, US Tax, risk management and/or consolidated reporting and analysis for life and annuity reinsurance
- Oversees the implementation of actuarial models into the financial reporting platform
- Maintains the governance and control infrastructure and drives continuous improvements
- Reviews experience monitoring reports and actuarial assumptions to make recommendations on assumption updates as needed
- Leads the production of projections for financial planning and analysis and clearly explains major drivers of variance
- Supports the calculation, review, and reporting of value measures
- Provides oversight and mentorship to junior actuarial staff
- Serves as a liaison with other lines of business and company functions/departments to promote improvement in valuation and financial analysis for assigned business
- Performs valuation work and ad-hoc department projects as needed and called upon
- Remains current in profession and industry trends
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance
- Manages a team as needed
- Performs other duties as required
Requirements
- FSA accreditation or equivalent
- 7+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance/reinsurance
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Finance, Computer Science, or related field
- Prior experience with GAAP, Statutory, and Tax valuation and financial reporting
- Prior management experience
Technical:
- Advanced ability to investigate, analyze and solve complex problems and issues
- Advanced actuarial technical skills including an ability to develop analytics to detect and explain sources of variation from expectations in terms of key drivers
- Advanced knowledge of life, health, and annuity products
- Advanced ability to model various insurance products and reinsurance structures
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP, Statutory, and Tax valuation and financial reporting
- Advanced PC skills and understanding of actuarial systems - including spreadsheets, databases, and actuarial projection tools
Management:
- Advanced project management skills, demonstrating an ability to leverage various resources and tools to reach a common goal
- Ability to influence a large global team to work together in delivering results
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment
- Ability to simultaneously contribute to multiple projects while meeting deadlines
- Advanced ability to adapt to new methods
- Ability to foster a teamwork and customer service focused environment
Communication:
- Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey complex ideas in a way that is understandable to all stakeholders
- Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with different disciplines, including pricing, valuation, investments, accounting and IT
Preferred
- MAAA accreditation
- Prophet modeling experience in ALS, US 360, US NA, GAAP, and/or cohort libraries
- Reinsurance experience

Compensation Range:
$135,850.00 - $207,700.00 Annual
Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
