The Director of Commercial Actuarial Practice is a consulting role accountable for selling, managing and delivering high value services to payer customers within Optum's Advisory Services. The Director will be responsible for innovating services to meet payers emerging needs. In addition, the Director will work across the actuarial team to assure best practices are followed to assure high standards of delivery as the actuarial team works with non-actuarial subject matter experts across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Developing actuarially sound services to meet client needs in the areas of risk adjustment, population health, product strategy, total cost of care and other areas of interest to payers
  • Delivering consulting projects on time and within budget
  • Provide peer review to other team members, and work with actuarial team to execute best practices in project delivery
  • Contribute to all aspects of the sales process including lead generation, pursuit, pricing and closure at an individual and team level

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Actuarial credentials of ASA or FSA
  • 7+ years of healthcare experience
  • 3 + years of consulting experience
  • Experience in leading customer engagements within consulting environment
  • Proven adept at working with large databases that have several million members
  • Proven comfortable in working in SAS, R, and/or Python and can teach others best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to mentor team members
  • Proven to work well within team environment
  • Proven active within the various actuarial organizations

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
