We’re determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. Working here means having every opportunity to achieve your goals – and to help others accomplish theirs, too. Join our team as we help shape the future.
This position partners with The Hartford's Captives team in providing actuarial guidance and support. This role is unique since this individual will see the entire actuarial life cycle (i.e. pricing, reserving and planning). The Captives segment offers unique insurance arrangements where Captive members share and pool insurance risk on the primary layer, while The Hartford retains the excess layer risk. Pricing these types of risks requires the use of complex WC, GL, Auto rating tools as well as an ROE model.
Responsibilities:
The candidate is expected to be a critical business partner and involved in a broad array of areas both actuarial and non-actuarial in nature. Examples of areas of responsibility include:
• Perform insightful account-specific analyses that enable the business to price new and renewal policies and to set collateral levels. This will require the actuary to challenge the status quo and think creatively as well as to communicate complex concepts to business partners.
• Lead development, enhancement and maintenance of actuarial pricing tools used by the underwriting team. This includes partnering with the other MLC actuaries on updating actuarial assumptions (e.g. trend, development, ELPPFs/ILFs).
• Support actuarial analysis for the Loss Ratio Planning (LRP) process
• Perform reserve analyses twice per year with non-traditional methods in order to capture Captive’s specific nuances.
• Support the build of benchmark models that span lines of business and business units.
• Partner with Underwriting leadership to deliver training on the pricing tools.
• Build analytics that proactively identify business issues and perform analyses that address these issues. Communicate results in a manner that is understandable and most importantly, allows management to make operational changes where necessary.
• Manage a team of two
Qualifications:
• 4+ years of actuarial experience with a proven record of success closely aligned with supporting a business.
• FCAS/FSA preferred, but related experience considered in lieu of actuarial credentials.
• Experience in pricing P&C commercial lines (WC and/or loss sensitive pricing experience a plus).
• Innovative and collaborative problem solver with experience working independently in a dynamic and matrixed environment.
• Ability to develop effective business partnerships with leadership in both Home Office and in the field.
• Knowledge of statistical modeling techniques; strong Excel skills required and knowledge of statistical techniques and methods a plus.
• Strong project management skills.
• Excellent communication skills - both oral and written, formal and informal; effective at communicating actuarial issues to non-actuarial partners.
• Proactive individual, who challenges existing processes, can influence others and drive a process to a conclusion while meeting critical deadlines.
