The position is part of the Global Specialty US Actuarial pricing team supporting the $800 million Financial Lines (D&O, EPL, E&O, Cyber) book of business. This position has a broad impact on this segments success and will work in close partnership with our Underwriting Divisions as well as Finance, Claims, and IT departments. This is a leadership position that will manage 1 actuarial analyst.

Responsibilities

As a key member of the Global Specialty actuarial team, this individual will perform a variety of actuarial functions including rate development, price monitoring, loss ratio planning, and profitability studies. Responsibilities include:

  • Refine and update rating and pricing models.
  • Identify and analyze pricing and profitability benchmarks.
  • Analyze internal pricing results and competitor information when available.
  • Develop and maintain price monitoring systems and tools.
  • Perform loss ratio planning and budgeting.
  • Collaborate with Underwriting to help guide and monitor strategy.
  • Initiate and participate in the development of procedures to improve data quality.
  • Present analyses and recommendations to teammates and business partners to guide decisions.
  • Seek out innovative approaches and apply R/SQL skills to enhance existing processes.

Experience & Skills

  • Undergraduate degree with a major in mathematics, actuarial science or related field of study.
  • FCAS preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7+ years of property and casualty insurance actuarial experience.
  • Financial Lines (D&O, EPL, E&O, Cyber) experience is preferred, but other experience in supporting lower frequency/higher severity products may also be applicable.
  • Knowledge of actuarial pricing and reserving techniques.
  • Demonstrated technical/analytical skills; High proficiency in Excel required and experience with R/SQL preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Independently motivated; constantly looks for areas to add value.
  • Teamwork skills including ability to effectively collaborate with and influence individuals at different organizational levels.
  • Note this can be a full time, remote work opportunity.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$117,520 - $176,280
