The Standard seeks a talented, experienced actuary with strong actuarial modeling expertise to join our Corporate Modeling division, focusing on Annuity and Retirement Product modeling. You will be involved in and have direct responsibility overseeing modeling solutions in support of company initiatives, critical to The Standard’s success, including interest rate risk management and hedging, cashflow testing, embedded value, and the forecasting and analysis of investments and capital.  You will leverage your skillful relationship management as you partner with key internal stakeholders and product line leaders.  You’ll be involved in evaluating and implementing new approaches and processes for our modeling as we challenge ourselves to consider new methods through our Actuarial Transformation effort.  You are an inspirational leader who identifies and develops great talent and ensures an inclusive working environment to allow for employee engagement and diversity of thought.  The missing piece is you, bringing your vision, expertise, and energy.

Areas of focus for you will include
 

  • You’ll develop a strong understanding of The Standard's profitability, growth, risk, and customer retention strategies. You'll lead the development and analysis of models used in analyzing ALM, Embedded Value, risk management, income projections and regulatory requirements including cashflow testing.
  • You’ll lead other modelers on the team to design and develop solutions for new initiatives and to promote model control standards. 
  • Ensuring model output is timely and accurate and meets necessary controls. 
  • Communicate model results to management to assist and influence corporate and divisional financial strategies.
  • Ensuring an inclusive and engaging work environment for your team, promoting diversity of thought and perspective.  Provide leadership and coaching to existing staff as well as attract, retain, and develop new talent ensuring a pipeline of talent for the future.
  • Supporting our Actuarial Transformation initiative ensuring successful implementation of improved procedures and processes.
  • As an active member of the modeling leadership team, you’ll provide thought leadership on various departmental as well as cross-functional teams supporting the modeling function and related best practices.
  • Provide actuarial advice and consultation to senior management on matters relating to all relevant products and processes.
     

Traits of a Successful Candidate


Education/Experience:

  • Experience with GGY AXIS required; Annuity and/or Retirement Product experience desirable
  • Requires significant prior responsible experience sufficient to have gained a seasoned actuarial business perspective.
  • ASA designation, or equivalent, required. FSA may be required depending on the specific role and is expected for responsibilities over reserve adequacy and product filings.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business, or a related field preferred.

  • Having broad actuarial, financial and industry expertise combined with unique product line knowledge, uses skills to contribute to the achievement of company goals.

  • Responsible for the overall management and technical oversight of both junior and senior actuarial staff (fellows, associates, actuarial candidates and/or support personnel) to perform one or more actuarial functions for a subset or segment of a Major Product Group, Line of Business, or Market.

  • Exhibits effective communication and people skills in managing projects, working with stakeholders and resolving conflicts.
  • Viewed as a resource to the division, providing leadership in his/her key areas of responsibilities.

  • Routinely provides counsel to the Top Actuarial Executive within the Product Group/Line of Business, or Market Segment, and to the analysis within their area of domain expertise.

Decision Making:

  • Primarily responsible for developing and executing on business needs within an actuarial function.
  • Scope of decision making mainly contained within the function or immediate team.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.

 

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$140,000.00 - $210,000.00
