This role is responsible for leading the assumptions setting team accountable for designing and operating within a framework for establishing, updating, reviewing, and uploading best estimate and valuation assumptions.

What You'll Do:
  • Guide team of actuaries to effectively implement the assumption setting process, including establishing an assumptions update calendar, assumptions governance framework and project management process.
  • Stay current on trends, research, and regulatory requirements relating to emerging insurance experience and assumptions setting methodologies.
  • Develop and implement documentation standards for assumption development that are sufficient to support applicable regulatory filing requirements.
  • Enhance and maintain the assumption library for use in projection, valuation, and experience analysis applications.
  • Oversee processes to ensure required assumption library updates are implemented on time and effectively controlled.
  • Continue to strengthen assumptions governance process and support efficient updates and precise modeling.
  • Working cooperatively with key stakeholders to develop and support assumption setting, including valuation, pricing, model actuaries.
  • Build trusted relationships with a cross-functional team to solicit input on assumptions and encourage critical evaluation of those assumptions.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 10 to 12 years of experience.
  • Five to 10 years of supervisory/management experience.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • FSA or experienced ASA.
    • Experience with actuarial assumption review and development or experience studies
    • Strong writing skills demonstrated by effective and efficient documentation of results and the underlying processes used to generate them.
    • Persuasive verbal communication skills demonstrated by the ability to present results to and obtain consensus and approval for recommended actions from senior management and other key stakeholders.
    • Proven effective collaboration with multi-disciplinary groups at all organizational levels.
    • Ability to solution problems independently with limited existing processes and work products to draw from.
    • Extensive insurance business knowledge.
    • Experience leading and developing an engaged, high performing team of actuaries.
    • Proven experience managing multiple simultaneous projects with varying deadlines and priorities.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Moody's AXIS actuarial modeling platform strongly preferred.
