The Associate Director of Actuarial Services within UHC Medicare & Retirement will perform critical research and investigation of key business problems through quantitative analysis of Medicare Advantage data. The Associate Director will proactively identify, communicate, and lead organizational dialogue on opportunities and risks throughout the organization, primarily on topics such as national medical costs, national medical trends, and Utilization Management (UM) affordability programs. As a subject matter expert, the Associate Director will interpret and analyze data from various sources (e.g. claims, authorizations, member data) and recommend best approaches to transform the healthcare industry. The successful candidate will be a key player in setting business strategy using data and analytics to improve member outcomes while delivering savings to the healthcare system.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Finance, Actuarial, and Affordability partners to develop financial projections and forecasts of expected savings from key affordability programs. Also, build comparisons of actual to expected results and develop explanations of variances
- Provide management with unbiased advice regarding medical cost strategy, including review of affordability programs strategy, operational outcomes, and financial metrics
- Build solid relationships within the organization including finance, network, product, actuarial, clinical, and operations
- Work with other healthcare economics teams across the enterprise to continually improve and refine processes and approaches

Required Qualifications:
- ASA or FSA designation
- 5+ years of experience in data analytics, specifically interpreting and communicating the results to a broad range of customers and business leaders
- 3+ years of experience in financial modeling; for example reserving, pricing, forecasting, etc.
- Extensive and expert knowledge of concepts and methodologies in health care environment
- Advanced or higher proficiency with MS Excel formulas, calculations, charts, graphs
- Advanced or higher proficiency with query writing in SAS and/or SQL
- Proven excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with internal customers across multiple departments
- Proven ability to approach issues from broad strategic perspective while also focusing on the details
- Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Medicare experience
- Experience with Utilization Management (UM) affordability programs
- Leadership experience with demonstrated prudent decision-making skills and notable initiative and resourcefulness
- Experience in a management role with demonstrated success in maximizing value from analytical staff
