As an Associate Director of Actuarial Services at Optum, you'll be charged with analyzing some of the world's most complex and abundant stores of data and delivering bold, business-savvy solutions. In addition to inspiring everyday challenge, you'll find an accelerated actuarial development path to support you in your continuing post-graduate education and certification.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret the key drivers of behavioral health care trends
  • Conduct and evaluate studies on utilization and health care cost; and determine the impact on premiums and health product proposals
  • Perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling to provide management with statistical findings and conclusions
  • Explain benefit expense trend variances to the forecast and budget
  • Measure impact of initiatives designed to control costs
  • Support trend development for the forecast team
  • Design and run complex data programs as you perform quantitative analysis of actuarial, financial, utilization and costs data
  • Serve as key resource on complex and/or critical issues
  • Direct and review work of analysts in the department
  • Communicate findings to leadership

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • ASA (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) or FSA (Fellow of the Society of Actuaries) designation
  • 5+ years of Actuarial experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of management experience
  • Experience working in finance or the health care industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Basic level of proficiency with SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language)

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington residents is $104,700 to $190,400 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
