Job Description
The Group Finance Actuarial (GFA) area supports Manulife’s Chief Actuary to fulfill his mandate across our global organization. The Reporting, Process and Change (RPC) team within GFA provides leadership and oversight for building automated actuarial reporting processes and controls related to valuation, making sure they are built consistently with IFRS17 standards and regulatory guidelines. RPC collaborates with colleagues across different functions (Business Unit Valuation, Segment Modeling, GFA Policy, Accounting, Inforce management, IT, Group Capital, ALM, etc.) to support the financial reporting requirements from different internal customers and ultimately to support the overall business strategic growth objectives.
This is a unique position to: gain experience on a wide range of actuarial reporting processes and ad-hoc projects; and collaborate with experienced professionals at different levels with different backgrounds across the company.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement automated technology-based solutions to meet financial reporting requirements on behalf of each business unit (including initiatives to accelerate quarterend timelines, new product / new reinsurance treaty launches, basis change reporting, quarterend review processes, new valuation methodologies, etc.)
- Prepare technical documentation in tandem with the application development.
- Support Moody’s AXIS and Risk Integrity (RI) upgrades and test the implications to the automated end-to-end valuation reporting processes.
- Maintain and update Reserve Movement Analysis (RMA) driver files and RI driver files.
- Support the IFRS17 system Qlik DOE project, and maintain the corresponding driver files going forward.
- Provide expert support and resolve identified issues during both testing phases and urgent quarter end reporting periods.
- Build procedural documentation and provide training to end-users and other key partners.
- Establish close and collaborative partnerships with other teams, sharing expertise and learnings throughout the development, testing and maintenance phases.
Qualifications
- Actuarial designation (FSA / FCIA) combined with 7 years of work experience in the life insurance industry.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent technical skills (experience programming or scripting, and experience with Qlik/Power BI/AXIS is an asset).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely when presenting technical issues, options, and recommendations to senior management.
- Knowledge of IFRS 17 financial reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of actuarial system and reporting processes.
- Detail oriented in conjunction with a Think Big mentality.
- Ability to work independently as well as to work with cross-functional teams - proven track record to form relationships and influence others.
- Ability to navigate through ambiguity.
- Ability to manage sophisticated tasks and deliver timely results.

Primary Location
Salary range is expected to be between
$84,375.00 CAD - $151,875.00 CADIf you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact recruitment@manulife.com for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
