What You Will Do
Responsibilities include preparation of actuarial valuations of pension and retiree health plan liabilities for multiemployer and public retirement plans, performing analysis of gains and losses, plan design studies, drafting employee communications, and communicating results to clients. There is opportunity for growth into a consulting role managing client relationships.
- Perform actuarial valuations and ensure the accuracy of the work product
- Review actuarial assumptions, recommend changes, and justify recommendations
- Provide support for and supervision of analysts, including training of actuarial concepts, programming of actuarial valuations, and guidance for special projects
- Manage and review projects and client deliverables, including government filings, retirement calculations, plan documents, and special projects
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting retirement plans, evaluate impact on pension plans and clients, and keep others apprised of such developments
- Provide support for new business development and marketing
What We Are Looking For
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelors in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field
- Minimum of 4-6 years of pension actuarial experience, including experience performing multiemployer actuarial valuations
- Significant progress toward attainment of Associate of the Society of Actuaries and/or Enrolled Actuary
Personal Qualifications
- Ability to manage projects and client deadlines and supervise staff
- Strong foundation of actuarial concepts and ability to apply them to client work
- Mastery of actuarial valuation software
- Ability to prepare visual representations of data and valuation results
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Attention to detail
The Team
Our team is comprised of consultants, actuaries, and analysts that provide services on retirement and health and welfare benefits plans. Our focus is serving the business needs of our clients and the healthcare and retirement needs of plan participants and their families. Our clients are primarily Multiemployer trusts that provide benefits to collectively bargained employees, though we also serve public and private sector benefit plans.
Location
Candidates hired into this role will be required to work in-person in the Milliman office in Walnut Creek, California on a weekly basis, but flexible work arrangements will be considered.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $103,000 to $166,000, depending on relevant factors, including, but not limited to, education, work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc.
