What You'll Do

We're looking for an Associate Actuary or Assistant Financial Director to join our Principal International team. In this role, you'll lead Value of New Business reporting, intangible impairment testing for acquired business, and provide financial reporting support for actuarial balances!

  • Coordination with leadership and international business partners to support reporting of key new business metrics
  • Execution of cash flow projections and business valuations to support intangible reporting processes and other strategic initiatives
  • Financial reporting & analysis for actuarial balances for retirement and annuity products
  • Collaboration with accounting, reporting and member company finance teams, to research and problem solve

Who You Are

  • Understanding of financial modeling and reporting
  • Proven ability to interact with and influence people within the organization via written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database or similar PC software packages, or ability to learn, are preferred

We'll consider talent at Assistant Actuary, Associate Actuary, Financial Analyst V, and Assistant Financial Director levels.

Assistant Actuary
  • Bachelors or master's degree in Actuarial Science or related field
  • Expected to achieve Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation within one year in position
  • 2+ years of actuarial work experience required
  • Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA is required
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements as specified by either SOA or AAA

Associate Actuary
  • Bachelors or master's degree in Actuarial Science or related field
  • A current Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, or global equivalent, or Enrolled Actuary
  • 6+ years actuarial work experience required
  • Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, the Actuarial Standards of Practice promulgated by the Actuarial Standards Board, and the Code of Professional Conduct of the AAA and the SoA is required
  • Must maintain continuing education requirements as specified by either SOA or AAA

Financial Analyst V or Assistant Financial Director
  • Bachelor's degree in math, actuarial science, finance or related field
  • 6+ years of relevant analytical experience within financial services industry

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$108000 - $167000 / year
Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You'll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
