The Role at a Glance

As an Associate, Actuarial Support, you will be part of a collaborative team and assist in the development of tools that the underwriting team and the sales organization will use for pricing group insurance products: LTD, STD, Life, etc. You will participate in the success of implementing the underwriting pricing tools. In addition, you will provide routine analytical support to actuarial staff by performing data analyses and supporting actuarial research.

What you'll be doing

  • Develop and implement high quality, robust pricing tools for the underwriters and the sales organization to price group insurance products.
  • Participate in key discussions with various levels of management across Underwriting, Sales, Pricing, and IT to develop and maintain the pricing tools.
  • Follow pricing tool standards and programming best practices.
  • Ensure documentation of the tool design, coding, implementation, and training is kept up to date and available to onboard additional resources as needed.
  • Implement data structures, database functions and procedures, and tool development methodologies with separation of concerns.
  • Code and implement actuarial pricing formulas and strategies in the pricing tools.
  • Learn and work with actuarial pricing methods and assumption development methods.
  • Provides routine analytical support to actuarial staff by preparing and analyzing data to be used in actuarial calculations and/or models.
  • Maintain awareness of developments in the actuarial and technology industries.
  • Learn and build proficiency in SQL, data management, and Dataiku.
  • Learn and build proficiency in Excel Formulas and Visual Basic for Applications.
  • Learn and build proficiency in .NET, primarily VB.NET but may include C#. This includes learning GITLAB and Visual Studio.
  • Learn Group Insurance pricing methodologies. Translate such strategies into requirements. Ultimately, transform them into user interfacing tools.
  • Work in a very collaborative team environment.
  • You do not have to travel 50%. However, once or twice a year the team may get together and do some general development and training.


What we're looking for

Must-Haves:
  • 0-1+ years of experience
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's)


Nice-to-haves:
  • Technical skills in SQL & VBA with the desire to take these skills to the next level.
  • Experience working with version control systems (Git, etc.) preferred but not required.
  • Experience with group insurance pricing/valuation/analytics preferred.
  • Experience with the software development life cycle preferred.
  • Curiosity and demonstrated capability to quickly learn new concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset willing to take the lead and own key design decisions.
  • Ability to think critically, identify potential challenges, discuss solutions, and validate results.
  • Work with a sense of urgency while maintaining appropriate attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.

The pay range for this position is $42,300 - $75,500 with anticipated pay for new hires between the minimum and midpoint of the range and could vary above and below the listed range as permitted by applicable law. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives and Lincoln's standard benefits package.
