Our office in Lincoln, RI is seeking Assistant Vice President, Life Actuary. This position oversees all activities related to reserving and financial reporting for Amica Life's product lines. It includes assessing statutory reserve levels, managing Asset Liability, and serving as the Appointed Actuary.
The role is located in our Lincoln, RI office, and will be eligible for up to two work from home days per week.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide counsel on the overall financial strength of the company and makes recommendations where necessary to address any identified areas of concern.
- Responsible for the valuation of liabilities and calculation of reserves, including review of all financial reports.
- Lead the company's efforts in testing reserve adequacy, asset/liability matching, surplus evaluation, projections of operating gain, cash flow analysis, other financial analysis and reporting for financial statements and forecasts.
- Provide assumptions and data to financial accounting and tax units for projecting future results on product lines, and recommends actions as necessary to improve financial strength.
- Monitor and analyzes developments in actuarial techniques, laws and regulations applicable to company operations.
- Coordinate, prepare, and perform actuarial analyses to be used in actuarial recommendations and reporting.
- Maintain documentation of actuarial analysis and assists in preparing the actuarial portion of state filings and responses to regulators.
- Responsible for modeling systems and validation of results.
- Responsibility to be aware of and in compliance with the corporate standards, policies, procedures and best practices relative to the hardware, software and systems employed within the department, which are not created or controlled by Amica's IT department.
Position Requirements
- FSA with 15+ years of actuarial experience, with particular experience in product valuation (term, whole life, annuities) and asset liability management
- Bachelors or higher degree in mathematics, actuarial science, business or science.
- Must be able to use quantitative methods to evaluate opportunities and be articulate and persuasive in forming consensus and recommendations. Must be able to communicate technical results to non-technical audiences.
- Must be able to assimilate the requirements imposed both internally (by senior management) and externally (through regulators and professional standards boards) into our daily operations and reporting mechanisms
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate staff and cross-functional teams to achieve results
- Must make clear and concise recommendations to management in order to communicate the benefits and costs of initiatives.
- Understanding of Statutory Reserving requirements and ability to keep current with industry standards and best practices
