Fortitude Re is seeking an experienced VA actuary to support building the VA valuation and financial reporting team responsible for statutory / tax, GAAP and CFT for the PALAC VA block. This is a critical role as Fortitude Re integrates the PALAC VA business.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience with VA products and VA US accounting frameworks. The successful candidate must have a desire and proven track record to improve process efficiency. The candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with management and business partners effectively.
This role will report to the VP, VA Financial Reporting Actuary. The VP, VA Financial Reporting is responsible for building and leading the valuation and financial reporting team for the VA block.
This role will be an integral part of the valuation and financial reporting team for the VA block and will support all aspects of US statutory / tax and US GAAP reserves and financial reporting.

The base salary range for this role is $150,000-$180,000 and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. - Execute project plan for VA financial reporting operational readiness
- Prepare timely and accurate reporting of US GAAP reserves
- Prepare timely and accurate reporting of US statutory reserves, tax reserves and all required statutory filings
- Support the CFT process and analysis
- Develop and enhance results analysis and attribution for each reporting basis
- Execute controls and governance processes
- Support Finance by providing information and exhibits needed for financial reporting
- Support other functional areas and management on information requests and initiatives as needed
- Support the evaluation of future acquisitions
What You Will Have:
- An undergraduate degree is required with preference for mathematic, actuarial sciences, and other quantitative fields.
- This individual will be a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) with 7+ years of experience.
- 7+ years of actuarial experience in the Life and Annuity insurance industry with a minimum of 3 years in variable annuity valuation and financial reporting
- Experience and proficient knowledge in US Statutory or US GAAP accounting frameworks for variable annuities
- Proficient knowledge with VA products and familiarity with VA modeling
- Proven track record of successfully owning financial reporting deliverables and improving process efficiency
- Demonstrated success working in collaborative teams and in working with cross-functional teams and senior management
- Ability to lead change and projects
