Job Description

The Assistant Vice President/Actuary provides actuarial support for the Accident & Health Division. The role is based in Philadelphia, PA, and reports to the Lead Actuary for A&H.

There is flexibility to fill this position at a lower job grade for qualified candidates not meeting the qualifications outlined.

Duties and Responsibilities related to these product lines:
  • Manage Product Development/Pricing projects for the A&H Actuarial team.
    • Collaborate with Product Development team and other areas of Accident & Health (Underwriting, Sales, Finance, etc.) to support ongoing revisions and expansion of A&H product offerings and rating/pricing tools.
    • Take lead role with actuarial support related to state rate filings, certifications, market conduct exams, and data submissions.
    • Management of direct report(s) and indirect management of others (as needed) to complete projects by agreed upon deadlines.
    • Provide guidance and training to staff, and formally review Actuarial work products before distributing.
  • Provide support to Underwriting team; Large case referrals, rate/rater questions, etc.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of insurance industry experience including experience with rate filings, preferably with Accident & Health related products.
  • Prior managerial experience will be advantageous, but not mandatory.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide clear and concise verbal and written communications of analyses, results, and work products.
  • Should have good organization skills with the ability to maintain detailed documentation and record keeping.
  • Familiarity with a programming or querying language such as SAS / SQL / R / FOCUS / Python / etc.
  • ASA required; FSA preferred.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or similar technical discipline.
