The Assistant Actuary will be a pivotal member of the US Pension Risk Transfer Valuation team at American National. They will report to the AVP and support the company's PRT objectives by contributing to the valuation team to ensure timely completion of monthly valuation of PRT deals and other ad hoc requests. This role will also assist with building out new tools and providing training to more junior members of the team.

What You'll Do:

Responsibilities focus on preparing valuation data on monthly basis for new and existing PRT business using Python and excel based tools. The role requires communication with pricing, operations, and valuation teams to gather data needed to prepare valuation data inputs and resolve any unexpected changes. This position also requires the implementation of the new PRT business in existing data preparation process, testing the outputs and making any modifications to accommodate new features. This position supports core actuarial functions such as reserving, modeling, and pricing of PRT business.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Effectively applies fundamental actuarial principles
  • Assist with modeling efforts for PRT valuation and other special requests related to financial reporting and statutory filings
  • Completes processes and improves methods for performing and documenting actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
  • Trains less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of experience.
  • Additional Qualifications:
    • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required
    • Knowledge of Group Annuities and/or Pensions
    • Strong programming and data analytics experience
    • Hands on experience with Python
    • Demonstrated ability for problem solving and efficiently managing timelines
    • Motivated, resourceful, entrepreneurial
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • The ability to demonstrate sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles is required
    • Attainment of an Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation. Performance and years of experience may be considered in lieu of ASA attainment
    • At least four years of actuarial analysis and a track record of performance
    • Experience in Pension Risk Transfer or Pensions
