We are seeking an Assistant Actuary I for our Commercial Lines Farm Pricing team. In this position, you will perform and communicate complex actuarial analyses related to farm product pricing including but not limited to rate impacts, factor analyses and other data analyses as assigned. This position will also have the opportunity to be involved in process enhancements as needed.

This is an exam track position, eligible for our actuarial student program. This opportunity is available remotely, or at one of our office locations in Springfield, MO and Glenmont, NY.

What You'll Do:
  • Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses in accordance with the "CAS Code of Professional Conduct" and the Actuarial Standards of Practice
  • Prepares and presents summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to home office and field management, other American National departments, consultants, reinsurers, and regulators
  • Completes processes to perform and document actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
  • Assists and trains less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses
  • Prepares for and progresses in the CAS examinations through on-the-job and home study


Required Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background
  • 4 or more actuarial exams completed
  • 3 or more years of related actuarial experience
  • The ability to demonstrate sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles
  • The ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral formats
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior commercial lines or farm pricing experience
  • Prior experience using R, SQL, and/or Python


Salary for this position can range from $78429.00 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $117643.50 for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill and education.
