Description

US Retail Markets (USRM) Risk Analytics is seeking an Actuary, Senior Technical Professional, to act as an internal consultant in strategically re-envisioning our Actuarial Indications processes across multiple lines of business. Indications provide critical guidance in achieving USRM’s profit and growth goals and it is imperative to improve the efficiency, agility and speed of our processes. This position will develop a roadmap to success by collaborating across lines of business (LOB) teams to ideate, advance recommendations, ensure timely execution, and resolve roadblocks. The immediate focus will be on Personal Lines (PL) Auto and PL Home indications, though with responsibilities across all US lines. This role will work directly with the senior leaders of PL Auto Analytics and PL Property & Specialty Analytics, the LOB indications teams, and the USRM Chief Actuary. The successful candidate will possess excellent project management, strategic thinking, and communication skills, as well as advanced technical skills and a demonstrated ability to influence.

In this role, you can expect to: 

  • Provide thought leadership in developing a target state for indications, identifying opportunities to improve speed, efficiency and transparency of insights.
  • Coordinate across PL Auto and PL Home indications teams to ensure connectivity on recommendations, strategically aligning as possible while documenting where differences should exist due to specific LOB nuances.
  • Develop and own the approach to expenses used in Indications across all lines, liaising with Finance to advocate for Risk Analytics’ needs and align on expectations.
  • Build prototypes as opportunities arise and peer review templates, providing suggestions for improvements.
  • Assist indication teams in identifying and resolving roadblocks.
  • Actively engage in regular meetings of indication leads.
  • Communicate proactive and consistent updates to key Risk Analytics leaders, including the Chief Actuary, on progress towards target state.

The ideal candidate will possess: 

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 5-7 years relevant experience required along with Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS).
  • Expertise in Actuarial Indications concepts, methods and processes.
  • Advanced project management skills with demonstrated ability to influence.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and build strong relationships and effectively share findings.
  • Advanced technical skills (MS Office Excel, SAS, etc.).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor`s degree required.
  • Insurance designations desirable.
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) designation preferred, or comparable actuarial education/designation combined with relevant experience.
  • Typically 0-2 years post-fellowship.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively more responsible experience (typically 10 or more) in an actuarial role, some of which may include experience as an actuarial candidate taking exams.
  • Requires detailed knowledge of the operations and processes associated with the operational group
  • Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of all casualty actuarial techniques, standards, and assumptions.
  • This position requires an experienced and knowledgeable actuarial viewpoint in a wide variety of actuarial subjects, and in company, industry, and regulatory practices.
  • Knowledge should include data, methodologies, systems and platforms.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of specialized software, actuarial and statistical methods, tools, and the existence of programming languages.
  • Ability to learn as needed.
  • Able to undertake new processes/analysis based on cutting edge research and technologies, within and outside the insurance industry.
  • Focus efforts on staying competitive in the market.
  • Ability to grasp theoretical concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make decisions with incomplete information.
  • Ability to establish and build effective relationships within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to give effective training and presentations to senior management and other groups.
