Global Risk Solutions (GRS) H.O. Actuarial Reserving Support is seeking an Actuary to produce high quality Reserving analyses in support of Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) SBU reserves. The role will include exposure to all lines of business across the LSM SBU and it’s balance sheet. Primary accountabilities are for the execution of Actuarial reserve studies and the development of risk-management tools, so that Senior Management can take accelerated action, and so that our external partners can have confidence in the strength of our balance sheet. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Execute 1st and 2nd independent reserve opinions as assigned
  • Partner with SBUs (Actuarial, Claims, Underwriting) to understand impacts of initiatives and book of business changes, and incorporate into ongoing reserve analyses
  • Provide clear and concise communication of technical actuarial work to technical and non-technical audiences, and on cross functional teams.
  • Develop effective tools for monitoring internal and external indications
  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with other teams within GRS Actuarial Support to leverage their work and gain consistency in approach
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of methods and activities
  • Interact with and provide actuarial technical assistance and information to peers, senior managers, and others within and outside of the organization
  • Mentor, motivate, and train less experienced staff and peers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor`s degree required
  • Insurance designations desirable
  • Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS)  preferred, or comparable actuarial education/designation combined with relevant experience
  • Typically 0-2 years post-fellowship
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively more responsible experience (typically 10 or more) in an actuarial role, some of which may include experience as an actuarial candidate taking exams
  • Requires detailed knowledge of the operations and processes associated with the operational group
  • Strong analytical skills with solid understanding of all casualty actuarial techniques, standards, and assumptions
  • This position requires an experienced and knowledgeable actuarial viewpoint in a wide variety of actuarial subjects, and in company, industry, and regulatory practices
  • Knowledge should include data, methodologies, systems and platforms
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of specialized software, actuarial and statistical methods, tools, and the existence of programming languages

  • Able to undertake new processes/analysis based on cutting edge research and technologies, within and outside the insurance industry
  • Focus efforts on staying competitive in the market
  • Ability to grasp theoretical concepts
