Job Description

Reporting to the AVP & Actuary - Pricing, Research and Development, the Actuary - Pricing Research & Development will support all pricing and R&D initiatives related to Underwriting Innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supports all pricing and R&D initiatives related to Underwriting Innovation
  • Review and recommend assumptions specific to new products and underwriting processes, including mortality, morbidity, and expected distribution of risk classes
  • Work with cross-functional teams both internally and externally to prioritize underwriting and new business initiatives and partnerships, review systems requirements and implementation of underwriting initiatives, and help maintain product and operational innovation while managing risk of mortality impacts
  • Support sales goals and profitability of product while continuing to comply with corporate guidelines and regulatory environment
  • Develop and maintain pricing tools and dashboards to monitor and assess program outcomes, using SQL, Tableau and other software to review experience data, uncover insights, and support future opportunities
  • Provide actuarial support to underwriting, marketing, distribution, strategy and IT areas
  • Lead/participate in ad hoc projects related to underwriting guidelines and new business application processes as necessary
  • Take initiative to drill down deeply into some subject matters in order to become department’s “expert”
  • Take initiative to suggest changes in department’s processes and procedures
  • Synthesize experiences from other projects within the department to find solutions to current problems
  • Perform top-down analysis of results and uses rules of thumb to identify areas for further investigation
  • Drive significant improvement within the department or BU by obtaining key management buy in

What we are looking for

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability combined with very strong technical actuarial skills.
  • Risk management focus, with ability to see beyond traditional measures and identify emerging issues.
  • Ability to respond to changing demands from multiple stakeholders and prioritize needs and results while working under deadline pressure
  • Detail oriented, with strong general programming skills and ability to develop organized, creative and consistent solutions to diverse and complex problems  (specific knowledge of SQL and C# would be an asset)
  • Experience with any of US individual life insurance (product development), experience studies, or life insurance underwriting an asset
  • Practical experience with Agile frameworks, Jira management an asset

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts

Salary range is expected to be between

$111,900.00 USD - $201,420.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
